It is with deep sadness that the Detroit Lions have shared the news of former defensive end Jesse Lemonier’s death at just 25 years old.
How did Jessie Lemonier die ?
Deeply saddened by the news of the unexpected passing of 25-year-old former Detroit Lions defensive end Jessie Lemonier, team representatives released a statement on Thursday confirming that Lemonier had died.
Though Cause of death was not given in their statement, the team expressed its deepest sorrow over the loss and recognized that “Jessie touched many people during his time with our organization and throughout his young life.”
It is a tragedy to lose someone so loved at such an early age and our hearts go out to Lemonier’s family and friends.
Jessie was a model teammate and wonderful young man who is gone far too soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
Who was Jessie Lemonier ?
Jessie Lemonier was born on January 31, 1997 and passed away on January 26, 2023. He was an American football outside linebacker and played for both college and professional teams. During his college career with the Liberty Flames, he went undrafted however was eventually signed by the Los Angeles Chargers as a free agent in 2020.
While playing six games as a rookie for them in the same year, he then moved to Detroit making appearances in seven games while recording 1.5 sacks and 15 tackles. This was followed by a short stint with the Arizona Cardinals in 2022 before being picked up by the Birmingham Stallions of the USFL.
Unfortunately, Lemonier didn’t make it to the final 53-man roster when joining the Cardinals last offseason and after his selection during the 2023 XFL Drafts, he passed away before participating in any games for them.
