Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has called for a forensic audit on the election results announced by the Electoral Commission on December 9.
According to the former president, the Electoral Commission is incompetent and it will take an independent and transparent audit to ascertain to true election figures before all issues raised would be put to bed.

In an exclusive interview with VOA, Mr Mahama said the frequent changing of the election figures by the EC points to the fact that they did a shoddy work which is why they will not accept the election figures as presented.
“With the incompetence, the EC has shown, it will be useful for us to do a forensic audit of the EC’s own systems and numbers to come to what the final number from the EC is.”
“This election, she can’t even get the results right. The declaration is all over the place. The way they have conducted this election; the government, President Akufo-Addo and the Electoral Commission is a dent to our democratic credentials.”

Mr Mahama said until the independent audit is done, they in the NDC will not accept the election results with the belief that the numbers were manipulated to favour the incumbent governemnt.
“As long as that is not done and we know there was a deliberate attempt to subvert the will of the people in favour of the incumbent, it will be wrong for me to just leave it because we will not learn the lessons of this election.”
