Beninese singer and songwriter Angélique Kpasseloko Hinto Hounsinou Kandjo Manta Zogbin Kidjo, well-known known as Angélique Kidjo,has been announced the winner of the 2020 Grammy Award for Best World Music for her album Celia.
This is the 4th time the legendary singer, is taking home an award at the coveted award show. According to reports, she has been nominated nine times at the Grammy Awards.

Much to the disappointment of many Nigerian music lovers, she beat Nigeria’s super star, Burna Boy and other artistes in the category.
Burna Boy’s album ‘African Giant’ was nominated on the 20th of November alongside other acts like former Grammy winner, Angelique Kidjo, Jules Buckley, Altin Gün and Nathalie Joachim with Spektral Quartet

Angélique Kidjo dedicated her Best World Music Grammy to Burna Boy.
“The new generation of artists coming from Africa are going to take you by storm, and the time has come,” said Kidjo during her acceptance speech.
“This is for Burna Boy, [he] is among those young artists [who] came from Africa [who] are changing the way our continent is perceived, and the way African music has been the bed rock for every [type] of music,” she remarked.
