Four persons have lost their lives at Roman Hill, a portion of the Kumasi Central Market after a deteriorating passenger van (trotro) ran over them Monday morning.
According to eyewitnesses several others have sustained life threatening injuries and are in critical conditions from the unprecedented occurrence. The deceased include hawkers and pedestrians.

According to eyewitnesses,the van described as white with registration number, AS-6403-Y, was said to have failed on the brakes, after a push on a hill to trigger its ignition.
A lot of hawkers and pedestrians who were caught unawares were knocked by the vehicle in the freefall, killing three women and a man, eyewitnesses claim.

It was reported that one of the deceased women was shopping for her daughter who had gotten SHS placement; the girl upon seeing her mother killed in that gruesome manner,collapsed.
The driver is currently in the custody of the police; the vehicle has been impounded. Investigation has been launched.
