Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, famed as Portable, in an attempt to evade arrest by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday, jumped a gate.
The Lagos State Police Command arrested Portable following a petition from a car dealer accusing him of defaulting on payment for a G-Wagon worth N27 million equivalent to $18,770.
According to reports, Portable had made a down payment for the vehicle but failed to settle the remaining balance as agreed upon.
The car dealer reached out to the singer, expressing concerns over the outstanding payment. However, Portable allegedly claimed that the purchased car had defects, refusing to either return the vehicle or pay the remaining balance.
In response to the petition from the dealer, law enforcement officers intervened, resulting in Portable’s arrest.
During the apprehension, the singer attempted to flee by jumping over a gate but was swiftly apprehended by the police.
In a video of his arrest that circulated on social media, the singer dressed in a white and black stripe shirt standing alongside eight other people, could be seen having a friendly conversation with the officers who came for him.
After he was shown a warrant of arrest by the officers, the singer responded, “No problem, no problem Oga mi,” while pacing around.
He then turned to a man, believed to be his friend assuring him. In a twinkle of an eye, the singer climbed over a gate close by, taking to his heels.
In another video, he was seen being bundled by four police operatives into a standby vehicle.
Confirming his arrest, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said, “Yes, Portable has been arrested.
He bought G-Wagon for N27m, paid N13m, and refused to pay the rest, claiming the vehicle was bad. We arrested him today.”
