What happened to Shahzada Dawood?
Shahzada and his son Suleman were trapped on a missing Titanic sub.
Alongside the father and son, Hamish Harding, Stockton Rush and Paul-Henry Nargeolet are also trapped in the Titan which lost contact with the Polar Prince just one hour and 45 minutes into the expedition.
The submersible lost contact at 4am on Sunday, June 18, 2023.
Shahzada’s sister Sabrina said: “May Shahzada and Suleman return to us safe and sound.
“We are sure they would be as moved as we are by the support of the global community during this period of difficulty.”
However, on Thursday, June 22, OceanGate Expeditions said in a statement that it believed the five members on board the submersible were believed to be dead.
“We now believe that our CEO Stockton Rush, Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood, Hamish Harding, and Paul-Henri Nargeolet, have sadly been lost,” the company said.
The US Coast Guard said debris was found on the ocean floor which was “consistent with the catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber.”
They said they would continue to investigate the scene.
