Max Wall funeral in Dublin heard how the 18-year-old who died on the Greek island of Ios was “the best craic.”
Family and friends were joined by hundreds of mourners for the funeral of Max Wall which was held at The Church of the Sacred Heart in Donnybrook at 11am yesterday morning (July 10).
Who was Max Wall?
Max Wall is one of the two teenagers from St Michael’s College who died on a Leaving Cert Holiday on the island.
Max and his friend Andrew O’Donnell, who were fellow students at St Michael’s College in Dublin, died while on holiday on the Greek island of Ios earlier this month.
The pair were among a group of more than 80 students from the Ballsbridge secondary school who travelled to the island following their exams.
Max and his schoolmate Andrew O’Donnell died in separate incidents on the Greek island the weekend before last.

Andrew’s body was discovered on the morning of Sunday, July 2nd in a rocky area near the island’s main town of Hora.
He had been reported missing by a friend who got separated from him while walking home the previous night and was found following an intensive search in the area.

How did Max Wall die?
Max Wall, 18, collapsed and died shortly after finding out that his missing schoolmate Andrew O’Donnell, also 18, had been found dead .
The chaplain from the teenage boys’ school, St Michael’s College, told the packed funeral service in Dublin of Max’s last moments and how sudden his death was.
‘Max was walking to the ferry when he died. He was talking to Niall, his father, who told me yesterday that Max sounded strong on the phone,’ Fr Paddy Moran said.
‘One second Max was living, and the next he was not. It was as quick as that. Max did not suffer. He was not afraid. He died listening to the voice of the father who loved him. There is consolation in that,’ he added.

Max Wall funeral mass this morning heard how he was a huge Manchester United fan and went by the nickname of ‘Giggsy’.
He was described by his friends as ‘the funniest man on earth’, with the ceremony hearing that the world has “lost a little colour” with his passing.
St Michael’s College Chaplain Fr Paddy Sheary remembered celebrating Max’s graduation mass just two months ago.
“I looked out at this sea of faces, ready to embark on the next stage of their lives as young adults, whatever future I might have imagined for our students, it never occurred to me that we would be gathered two months later for the funeral of Max,” he said.
“Our hearts are broken.”
The Church of the Sacred Heart in Donnybrook was full for this morning’s service – with mourners told that Max had made a “positive and valued” contribution to all who knew him,
Symbols representing his life – including a Manchester United jersey, a Leinster Rugby jersey, a St Michael’s School annual and a pool cue were placed at the altar by his school friends.
Speaking after his funeral at The Church of the Scared Heart, his mother Fiona said: ‘Max, our darling boy, we love you forever, we miss you forever. You were a force of nature and your memory will live on.’

Max is to be buried at Kilternan Cemetery Park.
The funeral of Mr O’Donnell will take place in The Church of the Sacred Heart on Wednesday at 11am, followed by a private cremation.
