Huw Edwards is a Welsh journalist, born on August 18, 1961, in Bridgend, Wales.
He was educated at Llanelli Boys’ Grammar School and graduated with a first-class honours degree in French from University College, Cardiff, in 1983.
Edwards then went on to do a master’s degree at Cardiff University in medieval french.
Although mostly a news reporter, the native Welsh speaker has presented a range of programmes and has hosted events such as the Bafta Cymru award ceremonies and history documentaries on Wales.
On September 8, 2022 Edwards was one of the first news presenters to announce the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
He will now be the main news anchor in charge of the BBC’s coverage of King Charles’ coronation.
Edwards spent a short time on work experience at the commercial radio station Swansea Sound, before joining the BBC as a news trainee in 1984.
He went on to be Parliamentary Correspondent for BBC Wales.
When he fronted the BBC Six O’Clock News between 1999 and 2003, it was the most-watched news programme in Britain.
Edwards has covered many key royal events, he was previously in charge of leading BBC coverage for Prince William and Kate Middleton’s royal wedding in 2011, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding in 2018.
He also presented shows across BBC One, BBC Two, BBC News Channel and BBC World News following the death of Prince Philip, as well as His Majesty’s funeral coverage on April 17, 2021.

Huw Edwards is married to Vicky Flind, a TV producer who has previously worked on shows including This Week, Peston and Britain’s Next Prime Minister.
