The man behind Mexico’s iconic children’s comic ‘Chabelo’ is no more. Xavier López died at 88 on Saturday.

Who was Chabelo?
Xavier López Rodríguez, known as “Chabelo,” was born on February 17, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois. He was a popular Mexican-American actor, comedian, television presenter, producer, and children’s music singer.
The film star worked in the Mexican TV industry for over 70 years. He starred in more than 30 movies, recorded over 30 musical albums, and worked on many television shows.
He had a successful Sunday morning program called En Familia con Chab℮lo that aired every week for nearly 48 years. It first premiered on November 26, 1967, with its final episode airing on December 20, 2015.
As stated by CNN: “His character, ‘Chab℮lo,’ became one of the most beloved actors and a reference for many generations in Mexico and Latin America.”

Chabelo cause of death?
How did Chabelo die? As reported by CNN, Chabelo passed away on March 25, 2023. His family announced the tragic news on his Twitter account and revealed that he died of “abdominal complications.”
The tweet — which was written in Spanish and translated into English by CNN — said: “This is a very sad morning, Xavier Lopez, father, brother, and husband, has left us suddenly due to abdominal complications.”
His family continued: “With a broken soul and knowing that many people have loved him for many years and that they will feel his loss, we ask you to pray for his rest and allow us to mourn peacefully the grief that overwhelms our entire family.”
Chabelo Funeral:
According to NPR, Chab℮lo’s agent, Jessica Nevilley, said funeral arrangements will be announced at a later time.
Chabelo wife:
Was Chabelo married? He was married twice. The TV star was first married to the late Mexican actress Angelita Castany, who was born in Cuba.
In 1969, he wed Teresita Miranda, and the pair were together until the time of his death.
Chabelo Children:
