The 16-year-old boy was driving his father’s vehicle without any permit or driver’s license when the vehicle lost control, hit a tree, and caught fire. The gruesome crash killed five people while a fortunate kid survived with non-life-threatening injuries.

Who was Malik Smith?
Malik Smith was the 16-year-old culprit, victim, and deceased of the Hutchinson River Parkway crash in Scarsdale, Westchester County. He was the son of Malik Smith Sr. who was extremely heartbroken due to the tragic death of his son and four other innocents.
Malik Smith was the teenager behind the steering wheel of the Nissan Rogue that lost control and hit the tree. The vehicle burst into flames and the passengers sustained fatal injuries.
Hutchinson River Parkway Crash: What Happened?
A Nissan Rogue driven by 16-year-old Malik Smith veered off the Hutchinson River Parkway and stuck into a nearby tree with a huge impact causing the passengers severe blunt trauma injuries. The vehicle then caught fire north of the Mamaroneck Road exit in Scarsdale.
The tragic accident killed Malik Smith, 16, Anthony Billips Jr., 17, Zahnyiah Cross, 12, Shawnell Cross, 11, and Andrew Billips, 8. The five deceased were traveling in the vehicle along with Malik Smith prior to the accident. All of them were related to one another in some capacity.
The five victims of the crash were from Derby. The crash took place during the early hours of Sunday morning as two choppers captured images of the burnt vehicle. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
A 9-year-old riding in the trunk managed to escape out the back of the vehicle. The kid survived the fearful crash with non-life-threatening injuries.

Was Malik Smith Responsible For the Hutchinson River Parkway Accident?
Malik Smith was driving his father’s Nissan Rogue without his permission, any permit, or a driver’s license. His father, also named Malik Smith, revealed to the police that he had warned his son not to drive.
“I told him, his mother told him, his older brothers told him, stop driving without a license, without a permit,” Smith, told CBS News.
“Anything happens, you get pulled over, you get in trouble for these things. Stop doing this.”
The father of Anthony Billips called it “the most painful post I ever had to write in my life” as he revealed he, his wife, ex-wife, and sister had “lost our precious kids in a fatal car accident.”
Malik Smith Car Accident: What was the cause of Children’s death?
The police officials revealed that the cause of death of the five children including Malik Smith in the Hutchinson River Parkway crash was blunt force trauma from injuries sustained in the crash. Further investigation is continuing to determine the cause of the crash.
According to the police, Smith was either distracted or asleep when the crash happened. However, this theory is not based on evidence from the scene. It’s not known if speed was a factor in the tragic car accident.
