Danny Wrenn was a native of Seminole and was best known as a legendary former longtime head basketball coach for the Plainview Lady Bulldogs. He was among the winningest coaches in Texas high school history, having 774 wins in his 33-year journey as the head coach of the Plainview Lady Bulldogs.
Danny Wrenn’s college career brought him to Wayland Baptist University in 1981, and he returned to Plainview as an assistant coach for the Lady Bulldogs in 1987, when he joined Kathy Harston’s staff. He took over as head coach two years later, in 1989, and did wonders throughout his association with the team.
His Major accomplishments
Danny Wrenn led the Plainview Lady Bulldogs to three straight 5A UIL State Championships in 2001, 2002, and 2003 and finished as the runners-up in 2004. During his 33-year coaching career with the Plainview Lady Bulldogs, the team missed the playoffs just two times. They advanced to the regional tournament on 10 occasions, having made five state tournament appearances.
Following a 33-year long and successful coaching career with Plainview as the basketball head coach, Wrenn retired on April 7, 2020. He was also a member of the committee that selected Adrian Alfaro to be his successor in the coaching role.
Wrenn was recently inducted into the inaugural class of the Plainview High School “Hall of Honor.” Following his retirement, Plainview High School dedicated the main gym floor of the “Doghouse” to Wrenn by inscribing his name into the floor.
