Former Top Gear star Ken Block has passed away at the age of the 55 following a snowmobile accident.

The American rally legend was killed while driving on a steep slope at his ranch in Utah’s Wasatch County when his vehicle flipped and landed on top of him, according to the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office.

Block’s unique brand of high-octane entertainment will be sorely missed, and to pay tribute to him, Daily Star Sport has cobbled together a list of his five maddest stunts.

Check them out below.

Water’s edge drift – Gymkhana 9

Rally driving is about precision as much as it’s about speed, and nothing demonstrates this better than Block’s water’s edge drift stunt in Gymkhana 9.

The American performed high-speed donuts right on the edge of a narrow dock, nearly 10ft above the water, with slow-motion replays showing the majority of his rear tyres hanging dangerously over the side. Not for the faint-hearted.

San Francisco jump – Gymkhana 5

It’s quite a sight when rally cars get #bigair – especially when you’ve got the San Francisco skyline in the backdrop. In Gymkhana 5, Block took advantage of the city’s famously steep gradients to perform one heck of a risky jump.

He raced up a hill at breakneck speed and literally took off as he reached the crest. He then came crashing down on the other side as the hill descended, seconds before having drift around a sharp corner. Talk about composure.

The wall ride – Gymkhana 3

For this stunt, Block turned to his passion for skateboarding for inspiration. He scaled a massive 51-degree NASCAR-style bank, drifted around a cone near the top, with his bumper kissing the ridge of the bank, and sped back down.

It might not look like the most daring of feats, but getting this one wrong could’ve seen him fly over the side, and possibly even a storey or two up in the air, and into near-certain oblivion.

Climbkhana

In this stunt, Block took on the iconic Pikes Peak Hill Climb in a heavily modified Ford Escort Cosworth, drifting his way up and down the mountain at ridiculous speeds.

One wrong move and his car was tumbling over the edge and down the mountainside, with nothing around to stop it or slow it down. There’s a reason for no overtaking rules on mountain paths, folks.

Terrakhana

As perilous as Climbkhana was, at least Block had tarmac to grip and a road to follow. In Terrakhana, he was on his own in the elements.

He sped, bounced, leaped and smashed his way through the Utah desert, with hidden jumps, sudden twists, narrow bottlenecks and off-road obstacles coming at him every few seconds.
